Rod Daily and Cameron Bay, both adult actors, held an emotive news conference yesterday in Hollywood to speak out against the porn industry and the lack of condom use in adult entertainment.

In recent weeks four porn stars in the Los Angeles area have been diagnosed as HIV-Positive. The shock revelations caused a two week halt of filming whilst the industry gathered its thoughts. This Wednesday two of those involved, Cameron Bay and Rod Daily, spoke out about their treatment by the porn industry and the lack of regard for safety.

Rod, although straight, has filmed many gay scenes. He noted that the use of condoms was far more common in gay porn, and that straight porn industry had some catching up to do. He said: “I do know for a fact that condoms will work, have worked, do work”.

Cameron, who is also Rod’s real life girlfriend, was diagnosed on the 21st August 2013, only three months after starting in the business – a test only a month earlier had shown her to be HIV-Negative. The actress recalls a scene, shot for kink.com, where the actor she was doing a scene with had a cut on his penis – the scene continued to be shot, without condoms.

In the America the AIDS Healthcare Foundation has called time and time again for wider spread condom use – saying that regular testing alone won’t cut it and that workers need to be better protected. The porn industry, however, says the models should be, and are, in charge of their own health and can choose the wear a condom or not.
