Those of us living with HIV are a diverse bunch, the virus doesn’t discriminate. We are black, white, asian; we are gay, straight, bisexual; we are male, female, trans and non-binary. We are everywhere and we are everyone. But there are some experiences that we think everyone living with HIV, no matter who they are, will probably have experienced.
The day you were diagnosed, you felt alone and had no idea what to say or do next…
The first time you had your bloods done…
The first time you finally open up and tell someone what’s going on, and it just keeps coming and coming…
The day you start your medication, knowing that you’ll be taking them for the rest of your life…
Then there’s that time you go for a night out and forget to take your meds with you…
and the times you can’t remember if you took your medication or not…
What about the time you had to tell the person you were on a date with?
The time you found out people were gossiping about your status?
Or the time someone on a dating app asked you if you were “clean” or “ddf”…
But then there was the time you found out you were finally undetectable and non-infectious!
And if you’re anything like us you’re now trying to educate your friends…
…and enjoying life. One day at a time.
